Figure Risk Grades
How Figure grades the risk of a Democratized Prime pool.
Every Democratized Prime pool is scored by Figure across two dimensions — principal risk and liquidity risk — and assigned an overall grade. Grades are a relative guide, not a guarantee, and can change as a pool’s composition and market conditions change.
Principal risk
Principal risk measures the likelihood that a lender does not get their full principal back. Figure evaluates the quality and seniority of the underlying collateral, weighted average loan-to-value (LTV), the degree of over-collateralization, borrower credit quality, historical default and recovery rates, and the structural protections in the pool (reserves, subordination, and first-loss capital). Pools backed by senior, well-collateralized, low-LTV assets score lower risk.
Liquidity risk
Liquidity risk measures how reliably a lender can withdraw on demand. Figure evaluates current pool utilization, redemption terms and notice periods, the maturity profile of the underlying loans, available cash buffers, and the depth of any secondary market. Lower, more stable utilization and shorter-duration assets score lower risk.
Grade scale
LowStrong collateral and ample liquidity; loss of principal unlikely under normal conditions.
ModerateSound structure with some sensitivity to defaults or redemption pressure.
ElevatedHigher LTV, concentration, or utilization; principal or liquidity may be at risk in stress.
HighMaterial risk to principal and/or limited liquidity; suitable only for risk-tolerant lenders.
